Pharmacologic action:
Enrofloxacin is a kind of fluoroquinolone and a broad spectrum bactericide specially used for animal. It has good effect on Coli, Salmonella, Klebsiella, Brucella, Pasteurella, Actinobacillus Pleuropneumoniae, Erysipelas, Proteus, Serratia Marcescens, Corynebacterium Pyogenes, Bordetella Speticum, Staphylococcus Aureus, Mycoplasma, Chlamydia, etc., weak effect on Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Streptococcus and Anaerobic bacteria. The antibacterial mechanism of this product is to inhibit bacterial DNA gyrase, interfere with the replication, transcription, repair and recombination of bacterial DNA, the bacteria cannot grow and reproduce normally and die.
Pharmacokinetics:
This product is rapidly and completely absorbed by intramuscular injection, and the bioavailability is 91.9% in pigs and 82% in dairy cows. It is widely distributed in animals and can enter tissues and body fluids well. Except for cerebrospinal fluid, the drug concentration in almost all tissues is higher than that in plasma. Liver metabolism is mainly to remove the ethyl 7-piperazine ring to produce ciprofloxacin, followed by oxidation and glucuronic acid binding. It is mainly excreted from the kidney (excreted by the renal tubules and filtered by the glomerulus), and 15%~50% of it is excreted from the urine in the original form. The elimination half-life varies greatly in different species of animals and different administration routes. The elimination half-life after intramuscular injection is 5.9 hours for cows, 9.9 hours for horses, 1.5~4.5 hours for sheep and 4.6 hours for pigs.
Drug Interactions:
(1) This product has a synergistic effect when used in combination with aminoglycosides or broad-spectrum penicillin.
(2) Heavy metal ions such as Ca2+, Mg2+, Fe3+ and Al3+ can chelate with this product and affect the absorption.
(3) When combined with theophylline and caffeine, it can reduce the plasma protein binding rate, abnormally increase the concentration of theophylline and caffeine in the blood, and even cause symptoms of theophylline poisoning.
(4) This product can inhibit liver drug enzymes, reduce the clearance rate of drug mainly metabolized in the liver, and increase the blood drug concentration.
Administration and Dosage: Intramuscular injection: 0.025ml for cattle, sheep and pigs per 1kg body weight. 0.025-0.05ml for dogs, cats and rabbits. 1-2 times a day for 2-3 days.
Adverse Reaction:
(1) Denaturate the cartilage of young animals, affect bone development and cause lameness & pain.
(2) The reaction of digestive system includes vomiting, inappetence, diarrhea, etc.
(3) Skin reactions include erythema, pruritus, urticaria and photo-sensitivity
(4) Allergic reactions, ataxia and seizures were occasionally happened in dogs and cats
Precautions
(1) It has potential stimulation on central system and induce epileptic seizures, not recommended for dogs with epilepsy.
(2) Carnivorous animals and animals with poor renal function should be used with caution, and occasional crystalline urine my occur.
(3) This product is not applicable to horse. Intramuscular injection has transient irritation.
(4) This product is not applicable to dogs before 8 weeks old
(5) The drug resistant strains of this product showed a increasing trend, and should not be used for long time under the Sub-therapeutic dose.
Withdrawal period: 14 days for cattle and sheep, 10 days for pigs and 14 days for rabbits.
