On the afternoon of November 3, the Third "Sinder Cup" Veterinary Surgery Practical Skills Competition was successfully held at the Animal Disease Control Center of Qingdao Agricultural University Haidu College. The competition was hosted by Zhang Wei, Vice Dean of the College of Bioengineering,;with the presence of Guan Xiaoqing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee; Li Qi, Secretary of the Youth League Committee; faculty members of the Animal Medicine Department, including Pang Tianjin, Zhang Kexin, Chen Dongliang; counselor Sun Yifei; and Zhu Hao, Head of the Sinder Technology Testing Center. Students from the 2022 Animal Medicine major actively participated in the event.
The competition involved the procedure of gastrotomy on rabbits. After a preliminary round, 10 teams advanced to the finals. The atmosphere at the competition site was both tense and enthusiastic. Contestants took each task seriously, skillfully completing a series of steps including preoperative preparation, surgical operation, and postoperative care, demonstrating solid professional skills and high-level technical expertise.
Throughout the competition, participants were energetic and performed with great style and skill. While pursuing precision and safety in their surgical procedures, they also emphasized operational speed and team cooperation, showcasing the excellent spirit and capabilities of the Animal Medicine students at Qingdao Agricultural University Haidu College in veterinary surgery skills. The judging panel was meticulous in evaluating every contestant’s performance, considering factors such as preoperative preparation, access opening and closure, postoperative care, and overall surgical coherence. They carefully documented both strengths and weaknesses observed during each contestant’s procedure, ensuring a fair and impartial competitive environment.
In this competition, participants demonstrated their solid foundation in basic skills, superb technical ability, strong psychological resilience, and consistent performance, presenting an excellent result. After nearly an hour of intense competition, the awards were decided, with one Grand Prize, two First Prizes, three Second Prizes, and four Third Prizes.
This event, through skills competition, fully highlighted the importance of such contests in the talent development process. It effectively tested the students' mastery of practical skills, inspired their interest and passion for the Animal Medicine profession, and greatly enhanced their enthusiasm for learning and practical operation abilities.
